The Racers took off out of the gates against James Madison Friday and never let off the gas down the stretch to claim a 71-43 win in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
Miami was kind to Tony Easley as the senior center had his way much of the night, including 15 points in the first half, to notch his sixth career double-double with 18 points and 10 boards. Easley also added five blocks.
Senior gaurd Danero Thomas and freshman guard Isaiah Canaan added 12 a piece to pace the Racers, who managed to win after only shooting 38 percent from the field. Holding the Dukes to 28 percent shooting and notching a 70 percent clip at the line helped too. The Racers added a 53-32 advantage on the boards.
The Racers improved to 2-1 on the season while James Madison drops to 0-2.
Murray State will get a day off before returning to the hardwood Sunday against North Carolina Central. They will get their shot at Isaiah Thomas and the Golden Panthers of Florida International Monday at 6 p.m.
