To all new students and returning Racers alike, welcome home to Murray State University. I hope you enjoyed your summer and are ready to start a new semester.
With a new year comes new additions and changes, and Murray State made several over the summer. The goal of these changes is to enhance your campus life and learning environment.
The new Richmond College is up and running, and you may have noticed old Clark is now only open green space. Take a look inside Winslow Dining Hall and notice a more personal look, including carpet, booths, new deli line and fifth serving line. Also, look for the new “Pizza To Go” program in the next few weeks.
In conjunction with Murray Transit Authority, the Racer Routes shuttle service is running five routes around campus, commuter parking lots, the North Farm and various shopping areas. It is free and all you need to do is show your Racercard.
The University Store has been completely remodeled, there is a new Enrollment Services suite in the Curris Center and additions and upgrades have been made to academic facilities.
The new semester will also provide you with numerous ways to get involved on campus and become an active part of campus life. I urge you to take advantage of these opportunities and maximize your college investment. Do not sit back and let these opportunities pass you by and regret it later. The possibilities are endless—residential colleges, Greek life, student organizations, Black Student Council, International Student Organization, Student Government Association, departmental clubs and organizations, campus ministries, music and theater productions, debate, campus newspaper, intramural sports - the list goes on.
By getting involved you will feel more a part of campus, meet other students, make new friends and develop “Racer Spirit.” There truly is something for everyone.
If it is entertainment you are looking for, check out Cinema International films on the weekends, football games at Stewart Stadium, concerts in the Regional Special Events Center, Lovett Live concerts, speakers on campus, theater productions, residential college programs, volleyball games, soccer matches and a host of other possibilities. In fact, your challenge will be to pick and choose which things to attend and at the same time make sure you leave plenty of time for your classes and study time. It can be a challenge, but what an opportunity!
So have fun, get involved, manage your time wisely and enjoy the semester. Always know there are plenty of people here on campus who want you to be successful. the Office of Student Affairs in Ordway Hall. One of the staff or I will answer your questions and make sure you get the assistance you need. You can even join me at night for a jog around campus if you like.
