College is said to be the greatest time of your life. It is where you meet new friends, learn about yourself in many new ways and are completely on your own. There is another major thing that will happen to you while you are in college, though. It’s called stress, and it will make you feel like pulling your hair out, crying and even packing up and going back home. Stress is one thing everyone can relate to and has been through at one point or another. Although we know how we feel when we get stressed out, we never can seem to make ourselves feel better.
There are many things you can do to relieve stress, but some are more helpful than others. The next time you feel stressed, back away and take deep breaths and relax your mind. Walk away from whatever task that has you stressed and leave it alone for a while. Take a walk either by yourself or with a friend and just talk and laugh and enjoy the day or night. Another tip for getting rid of stress is to put on your favorite song and just jam. Listening to music helps relax the mind and spirit. Meditation can also remove stress. Find a place you feel at ease and peaceful and just sit and meditate.
Not everyone may like to meditate or go for walks, but there are other alternatives for relieving your stress. Some people play their favorite computer or video game. Others write down all their feelings into a journal at the peak of being stressed. All of these things are used to clear your mind and help you relax. Everyone has a particular way of relaxing, so whenever you feel stressed, find that happy activity or happy place and go there.
Whenever I feel stressed or frustrated, I ride my bike. I put on my music and just ride all over the campus and through Murray until I feel better and then I return to my room and continue working. Stress can be eliminated from your life if you just realize you are getting stressed and just take some “you” time. It’s getting close to Thanksgiving and a lot of professors have you working on numerous assignments and stress will start to come. I am already feeling it myself but I am prepared for it. Whenever you are in the lab, or your dorm room working on that assignment that has you wanting to pull your hair out, simply walk away for a while. Take a break from the assignment, find a friend and laugh a little, and then go back to it. Don’t let stress be a factor anymore.
