With more than 1,400 new freshmen, a 248-piece Racer Band and approximately 150 students living in New Clark College, the number of Murray State students appears to be larger than usual.

Not only are the menu and variety of food changing in Winslow Dining Hall, Dunker's Deli and the Thoroughbred Room, but several structural and operating changes have also gone into effect with the new school year.
Clayton Vertrees Staff writer The 2008-2009 academic year brings change to Murray State's office of recruitment with Shawn Smee, director of the office of recruitment and Lesa Harris, director of undergraduate admissions. Smee graduated from Murray State and began working as an admissions counselor in 1998.
Amanda Crider Staff writer Murray State officials are considering the purchase of a $1 million piece of property to build a new, larger Paducah extended campus. In July, University officials paid $50,000 for an option to buy the 23-acre property within the next six months.

For many first-year Murray State students, the first week of college is a daunting experience, but University officials planned the Great Beginnings program to help. "The primary goal of Great Beginnings is to get new students acquainted with Murray State University and the community," Re'Nita Avery-Meriwether, student organizations director, said.
