Ehrhardt's pretrial conference date set

Redshirt Freshman Jeff Ehrhardt's pretrial conference is set for May 13 after his initial hearing earlier today. The trial was a result of Ehrhardt's charge of second-degree robbery from the April 9 incident in which Ehrhardt bumped into a Racer Patrol officer and took his ticket-book in the intramural parking lot according to a police report.

In the midst of an anxious crowd, candidates for next year's Student Government Association executive positions nervously awaited the election results Wednesday in front of the Curris Center. The elected positions were read one by one starting with representatives of agriculture and finally making it to the positions of vice president and president.

Study abroad offers students teaching experience in Belize

While Murray State students are studying for finals and finishing up end-of-semester projects in Kentucky, a group of nine future teachers are completing their undergraduate career in Corozal, Belize. As part of the study abroad program, the College of Education organized a three-credit hour course for students pursuing a career in teaching, Bonnie Higginson, associate provost for academic programs, said.

Dunn restructures enrollment policy

University President Randy Dunn has been busy rearranging some things lately after announcing his plan to restructure the Office of Enrollment Management, encompassing school relations and traditional undergraduate admissions functions. "We're decentralizing the recruitment admission yield work to a number of offices on campus so that international students will be recruited and admitted through the Institute for International Studies, graduate students through (the Provost Office), transfer students through continuing education and then the school relations and admissions units are coming together in a new office and enrollment management with a new director," Dunn said.

Food Services implements new environmentally beneficial programs

In an effort to leave a smaller footprint on the environment, Food Services will be ditching styrofoam cups for reusable mugs, Richard Fritz, director of Food Services, said. "We go through 8,128 pounds of styrofoam each year," Fritz said. "On top of that, we use 1,216 cases of styrofoam products a year, and it's definitely not biodegradable.

University re-evaluates following earthquake

At 4:37 a.m., on April 18, Murray State witnessed the untamable fury of a slight tremor. The 5.2 magnitude quake left campus buildings undamaged for the most part. A police report from April 18 said Old Lee Clark College had some minor structural damage.

Students learn Indian culture

With a potluck of entrees, henna tattoo artists and epic tales, the Indian Student Association held its Indian Night in the Curris Center Stables Friday. "The plan is to expose the American students to the Indian culture," Ramesh Utharala, graduate student from Hyderabad, India said.

Robertson exercises his abilities as vice president

It seems as though Don Robertson is always running. If he's not going to meetings as Vice President of Student Affairs, he is at fundraising events, concerts or other student activities. And if he's not there, he is probably running his usual four-mile route around campus.

Research shows turned scales

The Freshman 15 may now be the Freshman 5. A recent study at Auburn University showed that men gained an average of 5.4 pounds and women gained only 3.2 pounds during their freshman year. One-quarter of the participants in the study reported no weight gain at all, while some students experienced a weight gain of up to 13 pounds in one year.

April 17 1:05 p.m. A caller from Wells Hall reported being stuck in an elevator for five minutes before getting out on their own. Facilities Management was notified. 8:35 p.m. A caller from Franklin College reported a group of men in the parking lot playing ball and leaning on the caller's vehicle.
