The Student Government Association traveled to Frankfort, Ky., Wednesday to lobby legislators to take a second look at higher education budget cuts. Twenty SGA members, including SGA President Eric King, protested with hundreds of other students from eight public Kentucky universities.
First of all, in response to an article in the paper a few weeks ago, I think it is important for everyone to understand that calling the president of the United States, no matter who he or she might be, a "retarded cowboy" is probably not "Public Ivy League" material.
We have all been there. You are at a college soiree, just minding your own business, mingling with your peers, maybe munching on some pretzels. It's a good time. The beat is bumping, alcohol is flowing and the night is young. Then BAM, all of a sudden, your fun comes to a screeching halt.
The recent article, "Campuses adopt textbook rental plan, University Bookstore disregards idea," (Feb. 8) fails to accurately describe the realities of the textbook market. Publishers understand student concerns about college costs and have responded by offering more textbook and course material options then ever before, including lower-cost options such as abbreviated editions, no-frills editions, custom books and thousands of e-books.
After reading the opinion section of last week's paper, I found myself disagreeing quite a bit with the "Can guys learn to break the Man Club mentality?" article. The article described how many men ditch their girlfriends in lieu of drinking, playing video games, watching sports and general male riff-raff.
