Fire spinning allows creative, religious expression

Carl Harris got burned. A few times on his hands, and he has even singed a few patches of body hair. "I've burned a good patch of hair off the top of my head before," Harris, senior from Murray, said. The burns are the result of Harris's hobby, fire spinning, also known as Poi.

International film series continues

Grab some munchies, pull up a chair and journey through some award-winning stories from Germany, Great Britain and Africa. Cinema International presents free-admission films Thursday through Saturday, starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Curris Center Theater. This weekend, the film "Henry V", directed by Kenneth Branagh, is being shown.

Stream Team provides live campus broadcasts online

With online gaming, shopping and chatting, the 21st century is all about instant gratification. It seemed only right for Murray State to jump on board and offer online broadcasts of its campus events and air them live. In the fall of 2006, Dana Howard from the Center for Telecommunications Systems Management and Todd Atchison from StreamerNet worked with several TSM students to stream a live feed from Homecoming tradition Tent City.

V-Day promotes awareness

Vaginas always cause a stir on campus, but this year they're doing it double-time. Murray State's V-Day team performed "A Memory, a Monologue, a Rant and a Prayer" Tuesday in the Curris Center Theater. The group typically only performs "Vagina Monologues".

Professor adjusts to slower pace, spotlights research

Life is a little slower in Murray. For Alexey Arkov, that is just perfect. Arkov earned his doctorate in biology from the University of Texas-Houston Health Science Center. He performed his doctoral research at the New York University Medical Center. "I have always been interested in research," Arkov said.
