Movin' on up: College tuition expected to rise 6.6 percent nationwide

Over the last five years, college students have felt the pinch of high tuition and according to the College Board the 2007-2008 school year will be no different. According to the Board, the cost of tuition is expected to rise 6.6 percent nationwide next year.

Beshear, Fletcher make quick visit

Both Democratic gubernatorial candidate Steve Beshear and Gov. Ernie Fletcher made a final stop in Calloway County this week in last-minute campaigning before Tuesday's gubernatorial election. Beshear, who arrived Wednesday, spoke on the steps of the Calloway County Courthouse and was received with calls of "Man with a plan!" from the crowd.

Plans for new Richmond arise

While the initial interest in a new Richmond College arose in the late 1990s, ground breaking for the new residential college is expected to begin in February or March of 2008. The site of the new Richmond College will be the lawn beside Hester College, where the supplies for the construction of New Clark College were kept during the building process, Director of Facilities Design and Construction, Kim Oatman said.

University employees finalize retirement

Come January, Neil Weber won't be thinking about snowmen or schoolwork. Instead, his thoughts will consist of relaxing on a beach during his two-month stint in Florida. "We're just going to kick back, do a little walking, a little bicycling and eat a lot of seafood," Weber said.

Numerous Murray State students have heard this phrase echoed through their touch-tone phones as they wait for an automated voice to tell them they may schedule for classes. Administrators implement program to enhance recruitment

Murray State is undergoing technological changes to personalize recruitment, improve intercommunication and eventually replace RacerTouch. A new software program called Customer Relationship Management, (CRM), is a way for universities to connect with students , Vice President for Institutional Advancement Jim Carter said.

Department offers housing applications via Web

Next semester, freshmen and transfer students will be able to submit some of their required paperwork with the click of a mouse. Murray State's Housing Department is planning to have housing applications online by the end of November. Currently, the applications are available for download online, but a hard copy must be turned in to the Housing Office.

The team in Roy Stewart Stadium Monday morning does not enter to cheers from thousands of people. It does not have cheerleaders or a band to play its theme song. The members do not hear their names announced over the speakers or have fans wearing their colors or shirts with their names on them.
