The former Boy Scout Museum got a taste of urban flair Friday as Showtyme Entertainment presented professional comedians Denny Live and B Cole for the "All Star Comedy Show."

Tiffany Murphy, senior from Louisville and member of Showtyme Entertainment, said the student organization was formed to provide inexpensive, entertaining programs different from what is normally offered on campus.

"We basically try to have big stars come to (Murray State)," Murphy said.

Murphy said booking Denny Live and B Cole was not difficult because they have performed at college campuses nationwide.

"Both comedians knew about Murray State and knew it was a good opportunity (to perform here)," Murphy said.

Philadelphia resident Denny Live, known for his appearances on BET's ComicView, has a sense of humor based on his observations of relationships, women and dating.

B Cole, from Chicago, just finished writing, directing and starring in his second film. His comedic style stems from growing up in Chicago as well as observing events going on in the nation and the world.

Murphy said comedians are only one form of entertainment the organization has tried to book. Showtyme also has sought out performing acts, hip-hop artists and musicians from other genres.

The show was a part of Showtyme's "Tha Weekend '05," the organization's first weeklong celebration.

Mykeia Thomas, junior from O'Fallon, Ill., has been a member of Showtyme for more than three years. This was the first year the organization provided students with activities for an entire week, she said.

"Tha Weekend '05," continued with the "All Star Stomp Fest" held in the former Boy Scout Museum Saturday. The step show brought together challengers from numerous universities in the western Kentucky area, including Murray State's chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.

Each performance was judged on precision and crowd appeal. Cash prizes were awarded to the top-rated step teams.

Thomas said the step show had the largest turnout of any of the week's events.
