Women’s tennis coach resigns, takes position at Bowling Green State

Head women’s tennis coach Olga Elkin resigned Monday to take the same position at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, according to Murray State athletics.

Elkin was head coach at Murray State for two years, leaving the team with an overall record of 27-15 and an OVC record of 17-3. The Racers also made an NCAA Tournament appearance and took the titles of OVC regular season and conference champions under Elkin.

Allen Ward, director of athletics for Murray State, said he’s appreciative of Elkin’s accomplishments with the Racers, but is disappointed by the timing of her announcement.

“My number one concern is this group of outstanding young ladies and making sure they don’t miss a beat as they defend their OVC championship,” he said.

Ward said athletics will name an interim coach as soon as possible for the women’s team.

“I’m going to provide every opportunity for this team to quickly put this matter behind them and focus on making the upcoming season just as memorable as the last one,” Ward said. “This team is resilient and we’re going to be just fine.”
